The "issues" which I have experienced with FSrealWX are as follows:ġ) Apparent inability, at least at times, to download real weather as scheduled, which resulted in my trying to land at KSLC with an upper-level crosswind of some 29 knots at nearly ninety degrees from my flightpath, while the METAR from KSLC stated that existing conditions there were that I should have had a slight crosswind no more than nine or ten degrees off my flightpath of no more than 5 or 6 knots.

I am not contending that ASE's developers are overcharging, merely that I have no way of knowing if their product is sufficiently "better" than the freeware FSrealWX software to justify (for me) paying the price being asked for its purchase. But as I began the checkout process, I found that that amount works out to almost $45.00 US, which for me, on a strictly limited income, seems a very high price to pay. Just last night, therefore, I decided to take the plunge and purchase Active Sky Evolution (or ASE for short), which has received glowing recommendations in this and other forums, especially since the current purchase price is listed at 29.95 Euros, which seemed a sharp decrease in price based on what it appears the developers had been charging earlier. I am currently using FSrealWX to fill that void however, I've found that that program, good as it is, does have some limitations, and while the developer is apparently working on an entirely new version which may (or may not) deal satisfactorily with existing issues, there is no way to know how long it will be before the new version has been fully tested and made available to the public. However, this situation produces a quandary for those of us using one sim or the other, who are far from ready to give them up. I cannot really blame MS for this, much as I might like to, since both FS2004 and even FSX both reached end-of-life status some time ago and no doubt it was costing MS money to keep their own weather servers constantly updated with real weather. It has been pointed out in this forum that MS is apparently no longer updating its real weather servers, and this seems to be the case. That would prevent this from happening.I'm hoping that someone here will have tried both Active Sky Evolution and FSrealWX and is therefore in a position to comment on the relative merits/disadvantages of both. A suggestion for RWC - perhaps split out the selections as separate for FSGRW and ASXP, with the FSGRW pointing to the fsgrwsmp.rwx file and the ASXP option pointing to the metar.rwx file. However, with that remnant fsgrwsmp.rwx file and the fact that RWC is set up to allow FSGRW / ASXP together, the fsgrwsmp.rwx file kept hijacking my weather, which was why no clouds were showing up (based on the fsgrwsmp.rwx contents) when the X-Plane weather was showing stormy.
The fsgrwsmp.rwx was located in my X-Plane folder as I had previously tried FS Global Real Weather and opted to return to using Active Sky XP. I also noted that Skymaxx was loading metar.rwx followed by fsgrwsmp.rwx. Once I re-entered my licensing information and restarted X-Plane, clouds are showing up and everything is working. This seemed to reinitiate the X-Aviation licensing and now it is showing up. I deleted the Gizmo64 plugin folder, then reinstalled SMP and RWC using the Gizmo64 Stable option versus Beta (which I had done before).

Just an update - I fixed the issue with RWC not showing up in the SMP menu.
Here's the snapshot (with both SkyMAXX and RWC installed).Īny advice on being able to access the RWC settings would be great. Perhaps this is causing the issue with the the continual thunderstorm updates if ASXP and RWC are not working together and both trying to inject weather into the simulation at the same time. The challenge I'm having is that the Real-World Weather menu item is not showing up under SkyMAXX Pro, so I can't configure it to use FSGRW / ASXP / External Injector. You may need to temporarily remove plugins until you find the one that is interfering. It's possible there is some other plugin conflict going on here, and you have quite a few installed.

be sure to review the Real Weather Connector manual for instructions on connecting ASXP with RWC and SMP.īased on your log, it seems something is constantly changing the storm severity in X-Plane (specifically the sim/weather/thunderstorm_percent dataref) and I think this may be causing some problems. I see you are using Active Sky XP as well.
